Dropbox file migrations

Transend supports Dropbox file and folder migrations as a managed service offering. At this time, Transend Migration Console 3.x does not include self-service functionality for customer-operated Dropbox file migrations.

Default behavior

Permissions

Transend does not currently preserve Dropbox file and folder sharing permissions during migration. Upon completion of the migration, users must recreate any required sharing permissions within the target platform.

User Drives

A User Drive consists of the folder associated with a user’s account at https://dropbox.com/home for Dropbox Business users, or the root folder at the same location for Dropbox Personal users.

During migration, Transend migrates content owned by the migrating user within their User Drive. Shared folders owned by other users are not migrated as part of that user’s migration.

Folders and files that are not owned by the migrating user are treated as follows:

• If the file is owned by another user who is included in the migration project, the file will be migrated with the owning user.
• If the file is owned by a user who is not included in the migration project, the file will not be migrated.
• In either case, any required sharing relationships must be re-established in the target platform after migration, as sharing permissions are not preserved during migration.

Team Folders

Dropbox Business Team Folders are migrated separately from User Drives.

Each Team Folder is mapped to a corresponding Team Drive in the destination environment (i.e. Google Shared Drive or SharePoint document library). The folder structure and content are migrated into the designated Team Drive; however, sharing permissions and access assignments are not maintained and must be recreated after migration.
