Install a Custom Patch or Hotfix

When troubleshooting a migration-related issue, the Transend Development team may provide a custom patch or hotfix. These updates may be designed to:

  • Resolve a specific issue identified during troubleshooting.
  • Provide enhanced logging or diagnostic functionality to help Transend investigate and isolate the cause of an issue.

Custom patches and hotfixes are typically provided as a .zip file containing one or more files, typically with the extension .dll or .exe. It is important that these files are installed in the correct location so the updated components are properly invoked during migration processing.

Install the Updated Files

Follow these steps to install a custom .dll or .exe provided by Transend:

  1. Close Transend Migration Console. If any migration jobs are currently processing, allow them to complete before closing the application.

  2. Open the ZIP file provided by Transend. After downloading the .zip file, double-click it in Windows File Explorer. Windows will either display the contents of the .zip file directly or open your default .zip file utility.

  3. Copy or extract the updated file(s) to the following directory on each machine being used for migration processing. If you are using a .zip file utility, extract the file(s) directly to this location. If Windows displays the .zip contents in File Explorer, copy or drag the file(s) into the directory.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Transend Corp\Console Services

  4. Replace the existing file(s). When prompted, select the option to replace or overwrite the existing versions in the Console Services directory.

  5. Verify the installation. Confirm that the updated file(s) are present in the Console Services directory before reopening Transend Migration Console or resuming migration processing.

Important: If multiple machines (Remote Agent Machines) are being used to process migration data, the updated file(s) must be installed on each participating machine.

Notes:

  • In most cases, the updated files will already exist in the installation directory. It is safe to overwrite the existing files with the versions provided by Transend. As an additional precaution, you may make backup copies of the original files before replacing them. If necessary, Transend can also provide the original versions should you need to revert the update.

  • A computer restart is typically not required after installing an updated file. However, if the update includes tmcd.exe or tmagent.exe, you must first stop the Transend Agent and Transend Daemon Windows services before overwriting the files. After the updated files have been installed, restart both services. Alternatively, you may restart the computer to restart the services automatically.

Remote Agent Machines

If your migration is configured to distribute data processing across one or more Remote Agent Machines, the updated file(s) must also be installed on every Remote Agent Machine participating in the migration.

Each Remote Agent Machine uses its own local Transend components. Installing the patch only on the machine running Transend Migration Console will not update the components being used by Remote Agents.

For consistent migration processing, confirm that the same version of each updated file is installed on all machines participating in the migration before restarting or resuming migration jobs.

Important: Custom patches and hotfixes should only be installed when provided or specifically instructed by Transend. Do not copy files between installations or environments unless directed to do so by Transend Support.
