Custom Mailbox Migration Methodologies

If you require a custom mailbox migration methodology, Transend is able to deviate from the default methodologies for additional fees.

2-Staged Approach

The most common custom mailbox migration methodology is the 2-Staged approach that Transend utilizes when performing Enterprise Professional Services.

In the 2-Staged approach, Transend migrates all email data before the cutover, and then performs a delta migration of email and Single-pass migration of calendars/contacts/tasks after the cutover.

  • Stage-1 – All mailbox messages (migrated pre-cutover)
  • Cutover – Update DNS records to change mail routing to target (Users “Go Live” in target)
  • Stage-2 – Stage-1 delta job + Calendars/Contacts/Tasks (migrated post-cutover)

The benefit of the 2-Staged approach is the migration of email data is completed more quickly after the cutover than in a 3-Staged approach.

The reason the 2-Staged approach is not included as a default option is it requires additional labor and hosting fees to ensure Stage-1 is timed appropriately relative to the scheduled cutover. Additionally, the 2-Staged approach is not recommended without also performing a Pilot migration to understand true throughput rates, and Pilot migrations are not included within Transend’s default Express migration service.

If you are interested in a custom mailbox migration methodology, please contact your Project Manager during the Setup phase to understand options and additional fees.
