Address Translation – Microsoft 365
Because Microsoft 365 includes an onmicrosoft.com temporary domain that can beused during migration, special consideration is required to ensure addresses aretranslated properly.
Microsoft 365 – Target
If a user’s email address will be changed to an email address that is notdefined in the Users list after the migration is completed, ensure theAddress Translation checkbox is either disabled, or configure a CustomAddress Translation Table. In many cases, the onmicrosoft.com temporarydomain is used in the Users list during migration in the target email address,but you do not want to translate email addresses to an address that includes thetemporary onmicrosoft.com domain.
In this case, the easiest way to ensure email addresses are not translated tothe temporary onmicrosoft.com email address is to disable the AddressTranslation checkbox. When disabled, all email addresses in the target willretain their source address, regardless of what target email address is definedin the Users list.
Microsoft 365 tenant-to-tenant
When migrating between two Microsoft 365 tenants, it’s common to use theonmicrosoft.com domain in the target email address in the Users list, andthen after the migration is complete rename those accounts with the productiondomain. In this situation, configure Transend Migration Console as follows:
In the Users list, define the production domain in the source email addressand the temporary onmicrosoft.com domain in the target email address.
If user accounts will eventually retain the same primary SMTP email address inthe target that exists in the source, then simply disable the AddressTranslation checkbox.
Alternatively, in the Address Translation Table you can define theproduction domain in both the source and target columns, because after themigration is complete you will change the target primary email address from_john[email protected] to _john[email protected]. This ensuresthat no email address are translated to the temporary onmicrosoft.com address,even though it’s defined in the Users list.
